Four Human Right Activists who shine through Pakistan

Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Human Rights Day calls on everyone to stand up for someone’s rights! Disrespect for basic human rights continues to be wide-spread in all parts of the globe. Today, we wanted to bring some renowned Human Rights activists. These people have attempted to make Pakistan a better place.

Sabeen Mahmud

Peace activist and founder of T2F Sabeen Mahmud, who died from gunshot was a woman of many talents that mostly revolved around creating digital platforms for arts and culture. Ms Mahmud’s biggest dream was to change the world for the better through the internet and communication technologies and T2F was part of that dream. Her depart left the masses heartbroken.

Ansar Burney

The man needs no introduction. He is one man who is respected for what he does and what he stands for. Mr. Burney is a lawyer by profession and is Pakistan’s first human rights activist who stood up against brutalities against prisoners in Pakistani jails in 1980s. He has helped over 700, innocent prisoners from countries all around the world. These include persons locked up on false charges, those released from illegal prisons, sane persons illegally detained in mental asylums, illegal immigrants and those released from labor camps

Malala Yousufzai

Born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan. As a child, she became an advocate for girls’ education, which resulted in the Taliban issuing a death threat against her. On October 9, 2012, a gunman shot Malala when she was traveling home from school. She survived, and has continued to speak out on the importance of education. She was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2013. In  2014,  she was nominated again and won, becoming the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Asma Jahangir

Born January 27, 1952 in Karachi is a leading Pakistani lawyer, advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, President Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and human rights activist, who works both in Pakistan and internationally to prevent the persecution of religious minorities, women, and exploitation of children. She has spent her career defending the human which makes us very proud of her.
